Delaware Park was designed in 1868 as the centerpiece of the Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux’s park system which spread throughout the city in a coordinated network of parks, parkways and traffic circles. The casino and boathouse on the lake were featured in their landscaping plans as a more formal space designed to host events and public gatherings.
